Chelsea vs Crystal Palace: Penalty drama can lead to capital gains

Chelsea vs Crystal Palace Match Preview and Predictions

Chelsea will be hoping to maintain their unbeaten start to the Premier League season when they take on London rivals Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge.

[All odds correct at time of publication]

Maurizio Sarri's side sit two points off league leaders Manchester City and Liverpool in third place despite seven wins and three draws from their opening 10 matches.

Both teams were in Carabao Cup action in midweek with the Blues winning a ding-dong battle with Derby, managed by Blues legend Frank Lampard, but the Eagles were eliminated by Championship high-flyers Middlesbrough.

Chelsea vs Crystal Palace Betting Tips

Here are our best tips for Sunday's match for which we have a range of other markets available:

The lowdown

Chelsea have had a strong start to the campaign, despite the upheaval of a new manager and late transfer deals, to pick up 24 points and produce some impressive results in the process.

The Blues opened up with a 3-0 win at Huddersfield before defeating Arsenal in an entertaining 3-2 triumph in the following match. Chelsea have also eased to comfortable victories against Cardiff, Southampton and Burnley in addition to draws with Liverpool and Manchester United.

They have scored 12 goals from their five league matches at Stamford Bridge but have also conceded six goals so the first of our Premier League predictions is a Chelsea win and both teams to score at 9/5.

Palace have only collected six points on their travels, with victories at struggling pair Fulham and Huddersfield, but the Eagles have scored five goals away from Selhurst Park to support the tip.

In the last five corresponding fixtures at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea and Palace have each won the clash 2-1 on two occasions with the Blues winning the other match 1-0.

With the 'Sarri-ball' mentality of all-out attack which could leave the defence exposed, there is a serious possibility of Palace grabbing a goal and the chance of a fifth 2-1 outcome, in Chelsea's favour, is currently 17/2.

Feature previews for this weekend

First goalscorer tips

Eden Hazard is currently the joint-top goalscorer in the Premier League alongside Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on seven goals.

The Belgium international missed the wins against Burnley and Derby with a back injury but assistant coach Gianfranco Zola confirmed he is "looking good" for the weekend.

Should the 27-year-old attacker be fit enough to play then 16/5 for the first goalscorer looks the way to go, especially after opening the scoring in three league matches already this season.

Anytime goalscorer tips

Ross Barkley has only started four Premier League matches this season but he is proving to be an instrument part of Sarri's squad and has also contributed with goals.

The 24-year-old midfielder has worked his way back into the England national team after some impressive displays and scored in each of the last three matches for the Blues and to extend that record to a fourth successive games as an anytime goalscorer at 9/5 is the next of our football tips for the weekend.

Where the game will be won or lost

The Eagles will need to be organised and ready to defend when they travel across London on Sunday afternoon as they come up against the joint-second most prolific attack in the league.

Chelsea have scored 24 goals in 10 matches, only bettered by leaders Manchester City and matched by Arsenal, and even managed to notch four goals past Burnley without talisman Hazard.

Goals and creativity from midfield have been a key part of Chelsea's success, with N'Golo Kante and Jorginho adding the occasional goal in their midfield three with Mateo Kovacic.

That creativity and the skills of Hazard, Pedro and Willian have led to the Blues earning three penalties this term, while Palace have won three spot-kicks in their last two matches so the second of our second tip of the referee awarding another one on Sunday at football odds of 11/5.

Chelsea have conceded three goals in the second half in their last two home matches against Liverpool and Manchester United, so the last of our free football tips is for both teams to score in the second half at 23/10.

Traders' Tips - View from the trading floor

Only Chelsea and Manchester City have yet to be behind at the break this season and Palace have been drawing at half-time in 50% of their matches. With the Blues having won seven oof their 10 matches, Draw HT/Chelsea FT at 3/1 is a possible outcome.
