Manchester United vs Derby Betting Tips

Here are our best tips for the match and we also have a range of other markets available:

The Lowdown

Manchester United and Derby met in the semi-finals of this competition in the 2008/09 campaign.

Kris Commons scored the only goal at Pride Park in the first leg before United edged through via a 4-2 victory at Old Trafford, with a certain Cristiano Ronaldo on target from the penalty spot. United went on to beat Tottenham on penalties in the final.

EFL Cup betting tips

For more EFL Cup bets, check out our other previews:

The Premier League side have won the last four meetings with the Rams, scoring at least twice on each occasion, with the cup loss their sole reverse in their previous nine encounters.

Derby boss Frank Lampard won the League Cup twice as a player with Chelsea and last week celebrated the birth of a baby girl.

The Rams are on their travels for the third successive tie in this competition and are yet to concede a goal, with a 2-0 win at Oldham being followed by a comprehensive 4-0 rout of Hull.

Even though United will be much-changed, we cannot see past a home win but we do feel Derby can be a goal threat so we will begin our Manchester United vs Derby predictions by backing United to win and both teams to score at 41/20.

First goalscorer tips

Anthony Martial made only his second start of the season in the Champions League win over Young Boys in Switzerland, rounding off the scoring in a 3-0 triumph. It had appeared likely the France international was on his way out of Old Trafford in the summer but he is now back involved in the first team and could be given a start against the Rams, with 11/4 he opens the scoring worth consideration.

Anytime goalscorer tips

Juan Mata is another player who has had limited playing time this season, with his last start coming in the 3-2 defeat at Brighton in August in which the Spaniard was replaced at half-time, with his side trailing 3-1.

This is a game in which the midfielder, who lifted this trophy with United in 2017, is likely to be in from the beginning so 7/5 for him to score at anytime appeals.

Where the game will be won or lost

Both teams are expected to make changes with plenty of football to be played over the course of the next month.

Martial could get a rare start for United, with two of his four appearances so far this season coming from the bench.

Jose Mourinho's men have been blanked just once this season - a 3-0 reverse to Tottenham at Old Trafford - while only twice have the Rams failed to find the back of the net in 11 games.

The Rams have also been pretty resolute at the back, conceding 10 times, although this will be the sternest test they will have faced this term.

This is expected to be a tight tie and we like the look of Manchester United to win 2-1 at 9/1 in the correct score market.

Due to the changes to the line-up, the clash could take some time to get going and with that in mind, 19/20 for there to be more goals in the second half rounds off our Manchester United vs Derby betting tips.

Team news

Mourinho has already confirmed summer signing Diogo Dalot will start after impressing on his debut against Young Boys in the Champions League. Nemanja Matic is also available after missing out against Wolves through suspension.

Wales international Tom Lawrence serves the final game of his three-match ban for Derby following his dismissal in the Championship defeat at Rotherham.

Traders' Tips - View from the trading floor

This will be a tricky test for United, assuming several of the fringe players in the squad are given a rare outing. They should have the quality to get through but we're not expecting an emphatic win.
