Huddersfield vs Manchester United: Terriers to repeat Red Devils coup
Huddersfield vs Manchester United Match Preview and Predictions
Huddersfield and Manchester United meet for the second time in a fortnight when they clash in the FA Cup fifth round but their fortunes went into reverse over the weekend.
Town moved out of the relegation zone as they ended a run of five successive defeats as part of an eight-match winless streak with an impressive 4-1 victory over Bournemouth.
The Red Devils, 7/2 second favourites to win the FA Cup, were very unfortunate to lose at the weekend according to the expected goals data, but dogged defending and a superb display by debutant goalkeeper Martin Dubravka gave Newcastle a 1-0 win.
Huddersfield take on United for the third time this season, winning the first 2-1 and then deservedly losing the return 2-0 at Old Trafford.
This time they'll be meeting in the FA Cup, but whether it's the hard-pressing, energetic side that accounted for United, Watford and Bournemouth that turns up or the listless one that submitted so meekly in many of their away games remains to be seen.
United are just 2/5 to win Saturday's televised tea-time clash, but 7/1 on a home win looks too good a price to turn down and is the first of our Huddersfield vs Manchester United betting tips.
The expected goals totals of both sides were around the 1.4 mark at the John Smith's Stadium and should similar scores transpire again, those odds will look very generous.
"Huddersfield really want to progress and make something beautiful in the cup," Jose says. "We played them very recently, a couple of weeks ago. We know who they are, how they try to play, so I don't think we can be caught by surprise." #MUFC pic.twitter.com/OsWvgmD8sM— Manchester United (@ManUtd) February 16, 2018
Key midfielder Aaron Mooy was taken off during Town's win against Bournemouth with a deep gash just above his left knee which required several stitches and is set to be out for a few weeks. Alex Pritchard is also cup-tied.
Manchester United star Paul Pogba was substituted immediately after Newcastle opened the scoring having appeared to tweak something in the warm-up, although Jose Mourinho later denied the midfielder was injured and says he will start this weekend.
Steve Mounie scored one goal for Huddersfield against Bournemouth and was unlucky to have another chalked off when it was accredited as an own goal.
The Benin striker has three goals in four games across all competitions and is starting to look like the player for whom Town paid £11million. The next of our Huddersfield vs Man Utd predictions is for Mounie to score any time at 11/4.
United's last nine games have involved one team not scoring and they have failed to find the back of the net in their last two away games, but Huddersfield have not kept a clean sheet in nine which makes Huddersfield to repeat their 2-1 victory at 22/1 extremely appealing.
The Terriers' sole success against top-six sides came against United but the manner of their win against Bournemouth suggests they are capable of going on a winning run.
