Valencia vs Manchester United: Pogba gets chance to impress

Valencia vs Manchester United Match Preview and Predictions

Manchester United have had their problems in the Premier League this season but have eased through to the last 16 of the Champions League with a match to spare.

It means they can afford to take it easy in Spain, although they do have a slim hope of topping the group but it requires Juventus to drop points against Young Boys.

Valencia have even less to play for and are guaranteed to finish third, meaning they will drop into the Europa League.

Valencia vs Manchester United Betting Tips

Here are our best tips for the match and we also have a range of other markets available:

The Lowdown

A lack of intensity has been the hallmark of too many of Manchester United's performances this season but they could be forgiven for a repeat on Wednesday given how little is at stake.

Jose Mourinho appears happy to have claimed second place in the group and it is unlikely that Juventus will open the door for them to sneak in and claim top spot.

United's progress has proved surprisingly easy in the end considering they were booed off the pitch following a goalless draw with Valencia at Old Trafford in October.

The Spaniards were good value for a point but needed goalkeeper Neto to deny Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku as United pushed late on, with Marcus Rashford also hitting the crossbar.

Valencia are proving to be draw specialists this season, especially at home where they have drawn six of their eight matches in La Liga including a 1-1 draw with Sevilla at the weekend.

With neither side under pressure to push for a victory, a draw at 23/10 is the obvious pick as the first of our Valencia vs Manchester United predictions.

First goalscorer tips

United have often needed to go behind this season before coming to life so we're focusing on Valencia players in the first goalscorer odds.

Michy Batshuayi is on loan at Valencia from Chelsea and has often had to settle for a place on the bench but this could be his chance to impress from the start.

He opened the scoring on his last Champions League start against Young Boys and also grabbed the only goal in the Copa del Rey win against Ebro last week so he is our selection at 11/2.

Anytime goalscorer tips

Pogba's relationship with Mourinho has been under scrutiny this season but he will surely be desperate to prove his worth and try and force his way into the manager's plans for the Liverpool match.

With the midfielder often on penalty-taking duties too, Pogba is our pick from the anytime goalscorer odds at 11/4.

Where the game will be won or lost

Mourinho will surely rotate his squad for the trip to the Mestalla, especially with a more important trip to Anfield to face bitter rivals Liverpool on Sunday.

Pogba was left on the bench for the 4-1 win at home to Fulham on Saturday and Mourinho has promised the France midfielder will return to the starting line-up.

"He has to play with the same mentality as the team is playing," said Mourinho when asked what Pogba needed to do to get back in the side.

"Paul can be a fantastic player, he has the potential to be a fantastic player. Against Valencia he is going to start and have a fantastic football game to play and to show everybody how good he is."

We're not expecting a goal fest though, given that only two of Valencia's 15 Liga matches and one of their five Champions League games have produced three goals or more this season.

Under 2.5 goals at 5/6 looks a solid pick as the next of our Valencia vs Manchester United betting tips and we're completing our preview by taking 6/1 for a 1-1 draw.

That was the result when Valencia hosted Atletico Madrid, Celta Vigo, Barcelona, Leganes and Sevilla this season so a repeat of that scoreline would not be a surprise.
