Southampton vs Brighton Betting Tips

The lowdown

Saints go into the match still searching for their first win at St Mary's this season and Brighton's troubles on the road show no sign of abating.

Last season the Seagulls had the worst record away from home with just two wins and their form on the road has not really improved in the current campaign with back-to-back defeats at Watford and Liverpool, two of the teams that started the season with four successive wins.

Although the above graphic shows that Southampton have been superior in attack and defence in the last 10 games, their records this season have been similar in both areas.

Southampton are favourites to repeat their EFL Cup triumph but the first of our Southampton vs Brighton predictions is for Monday night's clash to finish as a draw at 11/5.

Last season these two sides shared the spoils twice and we expect Chris Hughton's men to dig in for a point once again.

First goalscorer tips

Danny Ings has scored twice in three starts since joining Southampton on loan from Liverpool, including the opener in the 2-0 win at Crystal Palace.

Ings has been Saints' most threatening player over the last 10 games as the expected goals graphic shows, despite only arriving in the summer, so he is our tip to score the first goal at 9/2.

Anytime goalscorer tips

Ryan Bertrand scored his first Premier League goal in 21 months in the 2-1 defeat at Leicester and the Southampton left-back looks a decent price at 14/1 to repeat the trick.

Bertrand has formed an excellent partnership with Nathan Redmond down the left flank and their understanding could lead to more success against a team that has failed to keep a clean sheet this season, conceding seven goals.

Where the game will be won or lost

Hughes was disappointed the international break came just after his side won their first game of the season and we expect them to be on the front foot against a Brighton team that has been leaking goals.

"We just started to get into a bit of form, in my view, and it's always a little bit frustrating that as the season starts to get going there's a break and 10 days where you haven't got your full squad together - and that can frustrate you,'' Hughes said.

"I think the last couple of games we've seen the group come together and get their levels where they need to be and as a consequence our performances have improved."

However, the Seagulls could have summer signing Florin Andone available on Monday night. The Romania striker will play 45 minutes for the Under-23s on Friday and Hughton will make a decision about whether he plays in the televised game.

With 34-year-old Glenn Murray carrying the attack that would be a big boost for Brighton who we expect to draw 1-1 just as the last two contests have finished.

The last of our Brighton vs Southampton tips is for the first goal to be scored between 51-60 minutes at 10/1. The graphic shows Saints get busy in attack during that period and Brighton are also creative in that 10-minute spell.

Traders' Tips - View from the trading floor

Charlie Austin scored just seven minutes after coming off the bench in this season's EFL Cup tie and the Southampton striker can break the deadlock again on Monday night.
