Manchester City vs Tottenham: Title-chasing City to get revenge

Manchester City vs Tottenham Match Preview and Predictions

Punters must decide whether the drama of Wednesday night's Champions League thriller will be repeated when Manchester City and Tottenham meet for the second time in less than 72 hours.

[All odds correct at time of publication]

Spurs ended City's pursuit of the quadruple in midweek as their 4-3 defeat at the Etihad Stadium was enough for them to go through on away goals and set up a semi-final against Ajax.

Both teams cannot afford to dwell on that result for too long as attention shifts back to the Premier League where City are pushing for the title and Tottenham are in danger of slipping out of the top four.

Manchester City vs Tottenham Betting Tips

Here are our best tips for the Premier League match for which we have a range of other markets available:

The lowdown

Both teams could be forgiven for taking their time to recover from what was an emotional night all round on Wednesday.

The circumstances in which the game was decided, with Manchester City grabbing a stoppage-time winner and then having it disallowed through VAR, meant everyone involved experienced a rollercoaster of emotions.

City must put the disappointment behind them as they look to keep the pressure on title rivals Liverpool while Spurs must lift themselves again and not get distracted by their Champions League success.

City midfielder Bernardo Silva said: "It's not time for revenge, it's time for another competition, time to keep us alive in the title race.

"We will try to win the game in the same way we did on Wednesday but knowing that we are playing against a very good team and that will make it difficult for us."

We expect City to produce the better response, fired up by the manner of their defeat and the desire to win the domestic treble, while the match does not look as decisive for Spurs who may feel they have more important matters to focus on.

City also have greater strength in depth and given the quick turnaround between matches, both managers will surely want to bring in some fresh legs.

With that in mind, the first of our Manchester City vs Tottenham predictions is City to win by two goals or more at 8/11 as they have done in 21 of their 27 Premier League wins this season.

First goalscorer tips

Riyad Mahrez was an unused substitute on Wednesday night and is the obvious option if City boss Pep Guardiola wants to change his attacking players.

The former Leicester winger scored the only goal in the reverse fixture at Wembley in October and can be backed at 6/1 in the first goalscorer odds.

Anytime goalscorer tips

Kevin De Bruyne looks back to his best and his return could give City the edge in the title race.

He controlled large spells of Wednesday's game with his dynamic runs and inch-perfect throughballs and although he has not enjoyed the same goal return as last season, we're backing him to find the net here at 3/1.

Where the game will be won or lost

Spurs were clinical on Wednesday night but the expected goals data showed City created significantly more chances on the night and across the two legs.

Conceding two goals in the first 10 minutes left City with a mountain to climb but they then dominated the game for long periods and must still be wondering how they failed to reach the last four.

"Yeah, it is tough. It would be better if don't concede, but we are close to going through," said Guardiola.

"It is cruel but it is what it is, we have to accept it. It was a nice game for everybody, a lot of talent, after 20 minutes it was 3-2. Second half we did everything. It was not easy to create chances but we create a lot.

"We make mistakes in that competition but were punished a lot. We knew it, we scored the goals we needed, unfortunately, it was a bad end for us. We have to stand up and react."

Feature match previews for this weekend

If you're interested in tips on our feature matches for the weekend, check out our in-depth previews below:

The injury-time VAR decision denied Raheem Sterling a hat-trick which would have been the main talking point if the goal had stood but the brace continued his fine form for club and country.

He has already scored two hat-tricks in 2019 and Wednesday was his third double so, assuming he starts, we expect Sterling to beat City team-mate Leroy Sane at 10/11 in the X Goals market, which awards points for shots and assists but punishes red and yellow cards.

For the last of our Manchester City vs Tottenham betting tips, we'll take City to win 3-1 at 10/1. That has occurred five times at home for City, making it the most common score at the Etihad Stadium this season, as well as twice away including last week's trip to Crystal Palace.

Traders' Tips - View from the trading floor

Manchester City were a VAR decision away from winning by two goals on Wednesday and we expect the home team to be more dominant here so we'll go with the same bet again.
