In-form Allen to make a mark at Scottish Open

The Scottish Open is already under way just one day after Ronnie O'Sullivan won his sixth UK Championship in such emphatic fashion on Sunday night and we have a special offer for snooker punters.

Place a £20 bet or more on either match betting, frame handicap or correct frame score at minimum odds of 1/2 and you will receive a free £5 bet every time your player scores a century break during that match.

With 128 competitors and the first four rounds over the best-of-seven frames, there is plenty of room for shocks in this ranking event.

O'Sullivan moved level with Stephen Hendry's record of 18 titles from the Triple Crown majors, a series made up of the World Championship, UK Championship and the Masters, following a thrilling 10-5 victory over Shaun Murphy in York.

The Rocket is the 3/1 favourite to add another title to his illustrious career, but after such an exhausting run to the final it might be too much to expect the five-time world champion to produce the goods again, especially as he rode his luck on occasions.

One player who certainly enjoyed racking up the big breaks at the UK Championship and is expected to go well this week is Mark Allen.

The 31-year-old Northern Irishman has landed a reasonably kind draw in Glasgow, with out-of-sorts defending champion Marco Fu (28/1) a potential quarter-final opponent.

Allen reached the fourth round in York and scored seven century breaks, the third highest of the tournament behind O'Sullivan (10) and Neil Robertson (8).

His form has been good this year, beating Judd Trump and Chinese prodigy Yan Bingtao on his way to reaching the final of the International Championship which he lost to Mark Selby in early November.

Neil Robertson is a potential opponent in his part of the draw, but the Australian has dropped out of the world's top 16 and has struggled for form this year despite signs of it returning at the UK Championship where he exited in the last 32.

'The Pistol' has reached at least the quarter-finals in three of his last seven ranking events, reached the fourth round here in 2016 and at 33/1 looks great value in our free Scottish Open betting tips to win his first title since the PTC finals a couple of years ago.
